Essential Skills Enrichment

 

What is it?

The Skills Enrichment Program is designed to focus on building new skills that increase the client's quality of life. These skills are broken down into four broad categories:


-Skill Acquisition

-Functional Life Skills and Independence

-Social Skills

-Self-Regulation Techniques


The Skills Enrichment Program is offered in partnership with UNB’s Applied Behaviour Analysis(ABA) Certificate Program. The ABA Certificate students apply their knowledge working with clients under the direction of Dr. Michael Palmer (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, BCBA-D) and a BCBA clinical supervisor. The teaching program/clinic allows students to provide low-cost skill-building services while simultaneously learning and practicing their clinical skills.


Who is it for?

This program is for individuals of all ages who would benefit from learning and improving skills that enhance their overall quality of life. This includes clients seeking to develop abilities in the four key areas; Skill Acquisition, Functional Life Skills and Independence, Social Skills and Self-Regulation Techniques.

This program is only available to individuals who do not engage in aggressive behaviour.


Procedure

Enhanced Skills Enrichment

What is it?

The Enhanced Skills Enrichment program supports individuals with higher support needs which may include co-occurring conditions, the number of programming hours required to achieve specific goals, or the presence of risky behaviour (elopement, self-injurious behaviours, or physical aggression towards others/property). etc.


Who is it for?

Eligibility for this program is determined on a case-by-case basis. Please complete an application to provide us with more information on your needs.

Adult Mentorship

What is it ?

The objective of the mentorship program is to provide individualized, evidence-based interventions that will enhance an individual’s independence through functional life skill-building. The program focuses on supporting individuals with autism to develop key skills that promote self-reliance in various environments, such as home, work, and community settings. The goal for each participant is to gain greater independence by acquiring and applying essential life skills tailored to their specific needs and strengths.


Who is it for? 

This program is designed for autistic adults who wish to target independence and functional life skill-building. It is specifically tailored for individuals who are motivated to improve their daily living skills, social communication, and overall self-sufficiency. The program is only available to individuals who do not engage in aggressive behaviour, ensuring a supportive and safe environment for all participants.
