About No Limits Soccer

No Limits is a non-competitive soccer program designed specifically for children with Autism and/or other disabilities, ages 3-12. It is offered by Autism Connections, an organization that serves the greater Fredericton region and is dedicated to providing services to persons with ASD, their families, and their communities. This program runs every summer for eight weeks in July and August, and is held at College Field in Queen's Square Park, thanks to our partnership with UNB.

Our team is made up of a Head Coach and three Assistant Coaches. No Limits is a non-competitive group so we do not play games against other teams. Our team operates in a skills and drills fashion. Children practice and perfect their soccer skills (such as coordination, gross motor, listening, following directions, sharing, etc.) through a series of activities divided into stations. The coaches at each station work with the children and their families to modify the activities to ensure that each child is successful.  We do have scrimmages with the children who are interested, keeping a focus on communication and sharing the ball instead of score.

Each practice begins with the reading of a social story. This helps the children know what is expected of them as well as what they themselves can expect. No Limits uses a poster schedule with removable photos and words which provides comfort to those who are dependent on routine.  We use timers which helps the children to know when to move on. Something else that sets us apart from your typical soccer team is that we encourage parents to help their child on the field.  We know that no one knows your child better than you and often the presence of a parent on the field is the difference between a successful soccer season and a more challenging one.  Of course, if you are confident in your child’s abilities and would prefer to sit back and watch, you are free to do that too!

The one hour session at 6:30 pm is perfect and we can see the positive impact on his overall progress. 

The staff and volunteers are well trained and teaching some incredible skills.

"Matthew has now taken part in this program for several years, the first few years he did the first hour and I think the past year it has been different each time due to coaching styles and children participating. 

First want to say the coaching staff this year are amazing the mother daughter teams are fantastic and really great with the kids, as well as the support staff. I am very pleased with overall people and their style. 

The structure of the program also really great Matthew as always takes time to warm up but also struggles with evenings all together but has gotten more comfortable each time and Noah and Ohana for the first time I am pleased. I know that really Ohana would of been better in the first hour but I could not be there that long or get her there at that time. 

The activities, games and structure is great. I know this is not run like a regular program due to needs and accommodations but I think it is going well and honestly the coaching is the difference. You have the right staff and coaches then you have a successful program. 

You have not only made a space that is safe and welcoming but the coaching staff are engaged and able to adapt and work with the needs as they arise and the children and their individuality.
